YMA Raiganj Sacrifice to Serve

          Some young men made first move in the year 1978 to start immunization camp to immunize the children at Raiganj in an unorganized manner when the immunization concept in our state was on taking off stage. They inspired by Fr. Laferla, the then Director of Social Welfare Society popularly known at CARITAS.
          The organized form of Young Men Association (YMA) came in the year 1983 on 2nd July under the thorough supervision of Fr. Laferla. They started with their auspicious Polio Camp (Immunization Camp) at every Sunday from 8-00 am to 10 am first of its kind in this town and adjacent areas. YMA though not registered society then but in an organized form started functioning of building awareness and concept of child health care among the guardians. Form then this Polio Camp continued each and every Sunday without any break even in the devastating flood in the year 1987-88. The Polio vaccine was not easily available in India. The vaccine was brought through reputed exporter directly from Russia. The concept and awareness of the immunization was created among the guardians of this town and adjacent areas of Bihar. More than 75,000 children so far been calculated immunized since then.
          This pioneer organization gradually undertaken various social services and programme with a motto to sacrifice to serve the society without any Government assistance are as follows.
1.                 Baby Show (child health check up camp and evaluation of immunization)
2.                 Blood grouping camp to build awareness for blood donation
3.                 Blood donation camp
4.                 Awareness of cleaning hospital and public places & built island garden
5.                 Flower Show
6.                 Awareness of traffic rule (road marking/erection of traffic signal board etc.)
7.                 Building of passenger shed at different place at Raiganj/Kishanganj (Bihar)
8.                 Flood Medical Camp (relief) in the year 1987-88, 93-94 and 95-96
9.                 Building of Toilet in co-ed schools and sinking of tube wells for drinking water
10.             Distribution of nutritious food to the poor babies free of cost
11.             Regular medicine camp to help the TB patient
12.             Financial help to polio patient (children)
13.             First Aid Camp during the Puja festival at different places
14.             National Pulse Polio Camp
15.             Free Books distribution to the poor student
16.             Rescue operation at Gaisal Train Accident at Gaisal
17.             TV to the inmates of the Raiganj Sub-jail


     In the year 1990-91, the YMA registered with Society Act vide no. S/800882 in the name of Raiganj Mohanbati Young Men Association with the same motto to sacrifice to serve the society and started functioning in its new office at 3rd Block, 2nd floor, Commercial Estate, Raiganj, Uttar Dinajpur.
